Winston-Salem, N.C. – After an emphatic 4–0 Senior Night victory over Toccoa Falls College last Thursday, October 23, the Carolina University Bruins Women's Soccer team will hit the road for their final regular-season contest against Emory & Henry College on Wednesday, October 29. The matchup will serve as the Bruins' final tune-up before the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament begins next week.
Carolina enters the contest with a 4–9–3 overall record, having found late-season momentum with wins in four of their last six matches. The Bruins' offense has begun to click, tallying 22 goals on the season, led by sophomore midfielder Alexa Anderson with six goals and sophomore forward Natalie Puskar adding four. Freshman forward McKenna VonCannon and junior Peyton Battilla have each contributed three goals apiece, giving Head Coach Boo Tesh a balanced attacking unit heading into postseason play.
Defensively, the Bruins have shown growth and resilience, recording four shutouts this year behind the steady play of freshman goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez, who owns 39 saves and three clean sheets across 15 appearances. Carolina's defensive shape and discipline have been key during the team's recent turnaround, highlighted by back-to-back shutout victories over Bob Jones, Toccoa Falls, and Bluefield State earlier this month.
Their opponent, Emory & Henry College, enters Wednesday's matchup at 7–4–3 and will look to protect its home field in what should be a competitive non-conference showdown. The Wasps bring a disciplined defensive structure and efficient attack, making this an ideal test for Carolina ahead of tournament play.
Head Coach Boo Tesh expressed pride in his team's growth over the season and optimism for the week ahead:
"Our team has battled through adversity and continued to improve every match," said Tesh. "We're finishing the season playing some of our best soccer, and this trip to Emory & Henry is a great opportunity to carry that momentum into the conference tournament."
Kickoff is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, at Emory & Henry College at 5pm in Emory, Virginia.
