LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A strong first-half showing wasn't enough for Carolina University Women's Soccer on Friday afternoon, as the Bruins fell 3–1 to Florida National University in the opening round of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
Carolina came out with energy and execution in the opening 45 minutes, dictating tempo and creating multiple chances early. Sophomore forward Peyton Battilla broke through in the 13th minute with her fourth goal of the season, giving the Bruins a 1–0 lead that held through halftime.
The momentum shifted after the break as Florida National made several tactical adjustments. The Conquistadors struck quickly with two goals from Latyfath Ubeda in the 51st and 53rd minutes, then added an insurance goal from Delmis Reyes in the 75th minute to secure the 3–1 result.
Carolina generated consistent offensive pressure throughout, recording 12 shots (five on goal) and earning six corner kicks, but were unable to find the equalizer in the second half.
With the loss, Carolina closes the 2025 season with an overall record of 4–11–3.
Earlier in the day, the CAC announced its All-Conference honors, and several Bruins were recognized for their outstanding performances this season. Sophomore Natalie Puskar was named First Team All-Conference, while Sophomore Alexa Anderson earned Second Team All-Conference honors. In addition, Freshman McKenna VonCannon was selected as Carolina's Champions of Character Award recipient for her exemplary representation of the program's values both on and off the field.
Head Coach Boo Tesh praised his team's effort and growth throughout the season, emphasizing their competitiveness and resilience. "I'm proud of how we fought together and kept pushing in every match," Tesh said. "We have a young group that gained valuable experience this year, and we'll build on that going forward."
Carolina University Women's Soccer now turns its attention to the offseason, looking to build on the foundation laid during the 2025 campaign.
