Carolina University Softball Moves Forward with Coach Johnson

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- After a national search, Carolina University has named Jay Johnson the new Softball Head Coach. Coach Johnson will be the third coach to lead the Bruins Softball team since the Program's inception in the summer of 2018.

Coach Johnson is a Winston-Salem native and feels at home on CU's campus. He and his family have been living in the Piedmont Triad area for the past several years. During that time, Johnson has been coaching softball and baseball at local high schools; however, he has extensive experience coaching softball at the collegiate level. Johnson began his career at Montreat College, but had some of his biggest success at Grace College from 2010-2015. Under his leadership, the Lancers offense exploded going from 220th out of 240th all the way up to a top-20 ranked offense in the NAIA. Grace College also is a like-minded school to Carolina University as they are also a member of the NCCAA. After Grace College, Coach Johnson served as an Assistant Coach at NCAA DI Elon University for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The Bruins are extremely excited to welcome a Head Coach with this high level experience accompanied with a heart for Christ and holistic development through sports. Coach Johnson will officially take over the Program on June 15th and look to build upon the success of CU. The Bruins finished in the final four at the NCCAA World Series of Softball in 2021 after winning the NCCAA South Region Championship. This past season was riddled with internal adversity and injury, but Carolina University still qualified and competed at the South Region Tournament.

Please welcome Coach Johnson to Bruin Nation and stay connected with Carolina University Softball on social media: @carolinausball.
