Box Score 2 MOCKSVILLE, NC - The Piedmont International University baseball team hosted their season opener series against Marian University on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31 and Feb. 1). PIU dropped both games by a score of 14-3 and 6-5.
Game One
After Marian University scored six runs in the top of the first, the Bruins weren't able to recover. Piedmont got on the board in the bottom of the second with three runs from
John Giboyeaux,
Josh Kent, and
Sammy Nieves.
Six pitchers saw action on the mound in game one.
Charlee Edwards started the game for PIU followed by
Dalton Caldwell,
Zach Williams,
Noah Vick,
Michael Williams, and
Bradley Driggers.
Game Two
The Knights were the first to score in game two, but the Bruins were able to capture the lead in the bottom of the second. Nieves recorded the first run followed by a ground out from
Talon Greene allowing
Brendan Carroll to run in.
Bryan Deegan, Kent, and
Drew Martin registered the next three runs in the third and fourth innings. After being tied 5-5, PIU, unfortunately, lost the lead with Marian batting in the top of the seventh.
Nate Williams started pitching for the Bruins. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out four.
Darin Spivey and
Hunter Rhineberger entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Bryan Deegan,
Harrison Vaughan,
Josh Kent,
Drew Martin, and
Matt Tullock all had one hit to lead Piedmont.
The Bruins will be back in action on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 8 and 9) when they play a three-game series against Salem University. The first pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
