Bruins Baseball Fall Just Short in Midweek Battle with Montreat

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Carolina University Bruins returned home Tuesday afternoon looking to build on momentum from a senior day doubleheader sweep, but came up just short in an 8–7 loss to Montreat College in a tightly contested nine-inning matchup at Rich Park.

Montreat jumped out early with a four-run first inning and added another in the second to take a 5–0 lead. The Bruins responded in the fourth inning, stringing together five hits to plate four runs and cut the deficit to one. Carolina continued to battle, tying the game at 7–7 in the sixth inning behind a two-run home run from Nathan Wesley.

However, Montreat reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning, and despite late opportunities, the Bruins were unable to complete the comeback.

Carolina tallied 14 hits on the day, led by Daniel Isbell's four-hit performance at the top of the lineup. Wesley added three runs and a home run, while Jacob Ananias contributed a key two-RBI double during the Bruins' fourth-inning surge.

Associate Head Coach Logan Conklin reflected on the team's effort following the game:
"We showed a lot of fight getting back into the game after a tough start, but we have to clean up the early innings and capitalize on opportunities late. This group continues to compete, and we're focused on carrying that energy into the weekend."

The Bruins now shift their attention to a road series at Bluefield State beginning Friday, April 24, with a single nine-inning game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25. The series marks the final tune-up before Carolina heads to Georgia Gwinnett for the CAC Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday, April 29.
