Bruins Make History with First-Ever CAC Tournament Appearance; Fall in Opener to Simpson

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Carolina University Bruins baseball program reached a historic milestone this week, earning its first-ever berth in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Baseball Tournament. Entering as the No. 5 seed in the double-elimination format, Carolina opened play against No. 4 seed Simpson University on Wednesday at host site Georgia Gwinnett College.

The Bruins battled throughout and carried a late lead into the final innings, highlighted by a strong offensive showing that produced 13 hits. Alexis Fontanez led the way with four hits and three RBIs, while Ty Vespe added three hits and scored three runs. However, Simpson rallied late to hand Carolina a narrow 6-5 loss in the tournament opener .

Despite the setback, the Bruins remain alive in the double-elimination tournament and will have a quick turnaround as they face Florida National in an elimination game on Thursday, April 30 at 12 p.m. at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Associate Head Coach Logan Conklin emphasized the significance of the moment and the team's resilience moving forward.

"Qualifying for the CAC Tournament for the first time is a huge accomplishment for our program and a testament to the hard work of our players," said Conklin. "While we're disappointed with the result today, this group has shown toughness all season. We'll regroup quickly and be ready to compete tomorrow."

With their postseason hopes on the line, the Bruins look to extend their historic run and continue building momentum for the future.
