Box Score 2 Winston-Salem, NC -- Piedmont International University hosted the NCCAA DI South Region Championship on Tuesday versus Erskine College.
The Flying Fleet, seeded #1 in the NCCAA, showed their talent offensively, giving Piedmont a tough time. Erskine took home the South Region title with an 8-0 victory in both games.
Erskine College got things started in the first inning when Taylor Payne doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
Morgan Hendrix was the winning pitcher for the Flying Fleet. She lasted five innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out 12 and walking zero.
Desiree Torres took the loss for the Bruins as she allowed 12 hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out two.
Erskine College tallied 12 hits. Allison Neely led Erskine College with three hits in three at-bats.
In the second game, Erskine scored on a triple by Neely and a double by Julia Cole in the first inning. A single by
Desiree Torres in the third inning was positive for Piedmont.
Hannah Houge earned the win pitching five innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out ten and walking zero.
Missy Smith took the second loss. She surrendered eight runs on 12 hits over four and two-thirds innings. Torres,
Olivia Bullard, and
Mckenzie Mastin each managed one hit.
The Flying Fleet had 12 hits in game two. Cole went 3-for-3 at the plate.
That wraps up for 2019 season for the Bruins. Piedmont Softball finishes their season with an 8-20 record.
