Box Score 3 Winston-Salem, NC -- This weekend, the Bruins faced Hiwassee College in a three game series, going 1-2 with the number 5 ranked Tigers.
Friday's game against Hiwassee College was a heartbreaker for the Bruins, as they lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat. The game was tied at one with Hiwassee College batting in the top of the sixth when they singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was active on both sides. Hiwassee College pitchers struck out six, while Piedmont sat down eight.
The Bruins fired up the offense in the first inning after we scored one run when
John Giboyeaux singled. In the top of the fifth inning, Hiwassee College tied things up at one as the Tigers hit a solo homer. Hiwassee College pulled away for good with one run in the sixth inning.
Jakob Fulmer took the loss for the Bruins. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Weston Markle started the game for PIU and allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out seven.
