Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Winston-Salem, NC -- This weekend, the Bruins faced Hiwassee College in a three game series, going 1-2 with the number 5 ranked Tigers. 

Friday's game against Hiwassee College was a heartbreaker for the Bruins, as they lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat. The game was tied at one with Hiwassee College batting in the top of the sixth when they singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was active on both sides. Hiwassee College pitchers struck out six, while Piedmont sat down eight.

The Bruins fired up the offense in the first inning after we scored one run when John Giboyeaux singled. In the top of the fifth inning, Hiwassee College tied things up at one as the Tigers hit a solo homer. Hiwassee College pulled away for good with one run in the sixth inning.

Jakob Fulmer took the loss for the Bruins. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero. Weston Markle started the game for PIU and allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out seven.

Lemonte Johnson, Harrison Vaughan, Kevin Greenwood, Giboyeaux, Michael Bullard, and Bryan Deegan each collected one hit. Piedmont was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
Hiwassee College totaled six hits in the game. Hiwassee College stole seven bases during the game as two players took more than one. 


Piedmont took game two in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple Hiwassee College. The game was tied at six with the Bruins batting in the bottom of the seventh when Bryan Deegan singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

Dylan Ramirez was the winning pitcher for Bruins after he surrendered one run on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Darin Spivey started the game for PIU. He lasted five and a third innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out five.

Deegan hit his first of three home runs in the first inning of the game.

Piedmont totaled 16 hits in the game. Michael Bullard, Kevin Greenwood, Eli Straw, Deegan, and John Giboyeaux all managed multiple hits for the Bruins. Straw, Greenwood, and Bullard each collected three hits each. Greenwood led PIU with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases. Wesley Ambrose made the most plays with six.


In the final game, the Bruins struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hiwassee College, giving up 19 runs.

Hiwassee College opened up scoring in the first inning. The Tigers homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Piedmont evened things up at two in the bottom of the first inning when Eli Straw homered on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs. Hiwassee College pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning.

Michael Williams took the loss for PIU. He lasted one inning, allowing two hits and zero runs while walking zero. Cordaro Cummings started the game for the Bruins. He surrendered eight runs on six hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one
The Bruins launched three home runs in the game. Bryan Deegan added a long ball homer in the third and fourth innings. Straw went deep in the first inning.

PIU saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. Deegan, John Giboyeaux, and Straw each had multiple hits for the Bruins. Straw, Giboyeaux, and Deegan each collected two hits each. Hiwassee College collected 16 hits during the final game.

The Bruins will head to Bluefield College on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 PM.
