The Bruins started strong in the field with
Weston Markle on the mound. Markle struck out three of his first seven hitters faced. Markle pitched the entire game and would record eight strikeouts.
Piedmont got on the board first with a home run from
Bryan Deegan off the very first pitch thrown from the Royals. Johnson University responded to the home run by getting two runs of their own. The Bruins would continue the back and forth scoring battle by registering two runs of their own in the following inning. John Giboyeux would expand the Bruins lead in the third inning with a home run.
The game would wrap up after a final run from Samuel Nieves in the sixth inning.
Unlike the first game, the Bruins could not establish a dominant pitcher in game two, throwing a total of five pitchers: Cordaro Cumming, Darrin Spivey,
Dylan Ramirez,
Bradley Driggers, and
Wesley Ambrose.
The Royals got a quick 7-0 lead on the Bruins with four runs and a 2 RBI home run in the third. Piedmont finally got on the board after a run by Harrison Vaughn, Takoda Bullard, and
Wesley Ambrose.
In the latter half of the game, Johnson University used Piedmont's shallow left field to their advantage, recording two home runs and a triple leading to two runs. But the Bruins continued their defensive efforts, as Bullard made a diving catch in right field to give the Royal's their third out of the sixth inning. When up to bat next, Vaughn registered a run and Giboyeux hit another home run, his fifth of the season.
Pitching the final inning, the Bruins recorded three straight outs but could not record any more runs to tie up the game.
The Bruins will be back at home on Monday (Mar. 18) as they play Montreat College in a doubleheader at 2 & 5 PM.
