Box Score 2 Winston-Salem, NC — On Monday evening (Mar. 18), the Bruins fell to Montreat College 3-11 in the first game but turned it around and dominated, 17-7, in the second.
The Cavaliers got off to a large lead scoring six runs in the first inning. They added three more runs before the Bruins got on the board from a run by John Giboyeux. Montreat and Piedmont would each record two runs in the final innings.
Dylan Ramirez and
Darin Spivey pitched for the Bruins.
In the second game, the Bruins opened up the scoring with a double by John Giboyeux that allowed
Bryan Deegan to run in. It was during the bottom of the second that the Bruins became unstoppable, scoring 11 of their 17 runs.
Piedmont would continue their spree at-bat in the third, with runs from
Lemonte Johnson,
Eli Straw, Giboyeux, and Samuel Nieves.
The Cavaliers finally scored their first two runs in the fourth, but couldn't dig themselves out of the hole they created. The Bruins would score one final run (the 17th run) as Montreat could only record four more in the sixth.
PIU will host Hiwassee College this weekend (Mar. 22 & 23) for a three-game series. Games are scheduled for 3, 12 and 3 PM.
