Box Score 2 Winston-Salem, NC — Piedmont Softball splits with West Virginia Tech in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, 4-9 and 7-5.
In the first game, West Virginia got to an early lead with a bases-loaded home run. In the second inning, WV Tech added two more runs. The Bruins, unfortunately, could not crawl back from the 6-0 deficit
The Bruins got on the board with a run by McKenzie Mastin and Savannah Presley after Desiree Torres hit a triple. Torres pitched for the Lady Bruins, facing 27 players at bat. Amber Newsom added the team's final two runs in the third and fourth inning.
In game two, the Bruins were able to capitalize on their opponent. Olivia Bullard and Missy Smith earned a run in the second and third inning respectively. Mastin earned herself a 3 RBI double in the fourth inning allowing Newsom, Torres, and Smith the opportunity to score a run each. Kayli Cook rounded out the scoring with a home run over the center field fence.
WVT came back in the sixth inning, scoring four runs. The Bruins, with Missy Smith on the mound, shut out West Virginia's final batter to close out the game.
The Lady Bruins will be on the road on Sunday as they play a doubleheader at Brenau University at 2 & 4 PM.
