Ave Maria, Fla. — September 6, 2025
Carolina University Women's Soccer dropped a hard-fought road contest Saturday morning, falling 2–0 to Ave Maria University at Gyrene Field.
The Bruins (0-4-2) battled through a physical match but were unable to find the back of the net. Ave Maria (3-2-0) took control of the game early, finding their opening goal in the 17th minute when Allie Burgess capitalized unassisted to give the Gyrenes a 1–0 lead.
Carolina regrouped defensively behind goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez, who recorded four saves in the first half to keep the margin within reach. In the second half, sophomore keeper Alona Locklear entered and added five more saves. However, Ave Maria extended its advantage in the 48th minute when Claire Wrobleski scored unassisted to make it 2–0.
The Bruins were unable to mount a sustained attack, registering two shots on goal — both from Alondra Ramon — which were saved by Ave Maria keeper Avalena DeBolt, who earned the shutout with two saves.
Carolina showed determination despite a challenging second half that included a red card in the 63rd minute.
Head Coach Boo Tesh praised the team's effort, saying:
"We showed a lot of grit today. Coming off the draw at Warner, our players responded with the right mentality and competed for the full 90 minutes. We are continuing to build chemistry and I am encouraged by the fight this group is showing."
The Bruins will return to action on Friday, September 12 against West Virginia Tech for a 7 p.m. kickoff for Senior Night.
