Winston-Salem, N.C. — September 12, 2025 — Carolina University Women's Soccer battled through a tough matchup Friday night at Truist Sports Park but ultimately fell 3-0 to WVU Tech.
The game remained tightly contested through the first 70 minutes, with both sides generating chances but unable to find the back of the net. Carolina's defense, anchored by goalkeepers Laurel Collins and Waleska Gonzalez, stood firm against repeated Golden Bears attacks. Collins recorded two saves in the opening half, while Gonzalez added three more in the second.
WVU Tech finally broke through in the 74th minute when Julia Silva scored the first goal of the match. The Golden Bears capitalized on late momentum, adding tallies from Victoria Paré in the 86th minute and Rocio Gutierrez in the 88th minute to seal the win.
Carolina was led offensively by Alondra Ramon, who registered the team's lone shot on goal, and Alexa Anderson, who tested the defense with two attempts.
Head Coach Boo Tesh praised his team's effort despite the final result:
"I'm proud of how our girls competed tonight. We stayed disciplined for most of the match and created some dangerous chances. WVU Tech is a quality team, and while the scoreline doesn't show it, we showed growth. We'll build on this performance as we prepare for our upcoming matches."
The loss moves Carolina to 0-5-2 on the season, while WVU Tech improves to 1-2-2. The Lady Bruins will look to rebound in their next outing as they travel to Brevard College on Tuesday, September 16 with a 5 p.m. kickoff.
