Carolina University Men's Soccer Opens Season with 2-0 Win vs Guilford

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Carolina University Men's Soccer began its 2025 season in winning fashion, earning a 2-0  opening victory over Guilford College on Thursday evening at Truist Sports Park.
The Bruins (1-0) struck first in the 15th minute when senior Will McCamley scored the opening goal of the season with an unassisted finish, giving CU an early advantage.
Carolina doubled its lead in the second half as junior Karell Buitendijk calmly converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute, sealing the victory.

Defensively, the Bruins were anchored by goalkeeper Joshua Wilson, who recorded five saves on the way to a clean sheet. The back line stood tall against Guilford's 12 shots, including a late strike that rattled off the crossbar.

Head Coach Craig Golding praised his team's effort in the opener. "It was good to finally get out there and play someone other than ourselves. We have a lot of new guys and you could see we are still trying to figure some things out. We are proud of how the guys started the season with a 2-0 result and clean sheet. This is a good result to build on moving forward."

Carolina finished the match with 12 total shots, including five on frame, while holding the Quakers scoreless despite six corner kicks and a second-half push.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday August 23 when they travel to face off against Emory & Henry University.
