Advance, N.C. – August 30, 2025 – The Carolina University Men's Soccer team earned a hard-fought 3–2 victory over the University of Pikeville on Saturday evening at Truist Sports Park. With the win, the Bruins improve to 2–0 on the season.
Carolina opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Samuel Richter finished a pass from Will McCamley to give the Bruins a 1–0 lead. After holding the advantage into halftime, CU wasted little time adding to the margin in the second half. Lewis Jacklin struck twice in quick succession—first in the 47th minute off a long assist from goalkeeper Joshua Wilson, and again just four minutes later with McCamley earning his second assist of the match.
The 3–0 advantage quickly turned into a test, as Pikeville mounted a comeback. The Bears pulled one back in the 64th minute through Bruno Arenal and then cut the deficit to 3–2 with a penalty in the 70th minute. Despite the momentum shift, Wilson and the Bruin back line held firm in the final twenty minutes, preserving the victory.
Jacklin led the attack with two goals, while Richter added one. McCamley tallied two assists, and Wilson contributed five saves to go along with his assist from goal.
Following the match, Head Coach Craig Golding credited both the attacking efficiency and the team's composure under pressure:
"I was really pleased with how sharp we came out to start both halves. Lewis and Samuel took their chances well, and our midfield worked hard to create opportunities. Credit to Pikeville for fighting back and making it a battle, but I was proud of how our guys stayed composed under pressure to see out the win."
Carolina University will look to build on its strong start to the 2025 campaign as the Bruins prepare for their matchup against Columbia International on Monday, September 2nd. Kickoff for that match is slated for 7:00 PM.
