Carolina Women’s Basketball Travels to West Virginia Tech for Tuesday Matchup

The Carolina University Women's Basketball team is set for its second contest of the 2025–26 season as the Bruins travel to Beckley, West Virginia, to take on West Virginia Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4 at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

The matchup marks the second straight road test to open the season for the Bruins under first-year Head Coach Hannah Latiolais, who is guiding a roster that features a blend of returning experience and new talent.

Bruins Look to Bounce Back

Carolina (0–1) opened the season on the road at Georgetown (Ky.) last Friday, falling 109–60 in a challenging opener. Despite the setback, the Bruins showed encouraging flashes of potential.

Junior guard Dearia Page led all scorers with 23 points on 61% shooting and added nine rebounds. Sophomore MeiLani Patterson contributed nine points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Sy-Marieona Williams scored 10 points and grabbed four boards.

As a team, Carolina collected 45 total rebounds, including 15 on the offensive glass, but will look to cut down turnovers after committing 19 in the opener. The Bruins shot 33.3% from the field and 21.1% from three-point range, showing aggressive offensive tempo throughout the contest.

Scouting West Virginia Tech

West Virginia Tech (1–0) opened its campaign with an 82–74 victory over Ohio Christian University on Saturday in Beckley.

The Golden Bears displayed impressive offensive balance, shooting 44.3% from the floor and 74.2% from the free-throw line, with four players reaching double figures. Cadence Stewart paced WVU Tech with 18 points and six assists, while Liz Cadle added 13 points off the bench. Avery Lucas and Halle Crouse each chipped in 11 points to help the Golden Bears secure their season-opening win.

WVU Tech capitalized on 21 points off turnovers and showcased its depth with 42 bench points in the victory.

Coach Latiolais' Outlook

Coach Hannah Latiolais continues to emphasize growth, defensive pride, and team cohesion in the early part of her first season leading the program.

"Our focus is on playing with relentless energy and commitment on the defensive end," said Latiolais. "We want to pride ourselves on rebounding and applying pressure for 40 minutes. Every possession is an opportunity to improve and build our identity."

What to Watch

  • Defensive Response: Carolina will aim to limit transition opportunities and perimeter looks against a WVU Tech team that thrives on ball movement and outside shooting.

  • Balanced Scoring: With Page leading the offensive charge, the Bruins look to spread the floor and create opportunities for Patterson, Williams, and other newcomers.

  • Battle on the Boards: Both teams rebounded effectively in their openers; controlling the glass will be a key factor Tuesday night.

  • Turnover Margin: Carolina will look to reverse a -10 turnover deficit from its opener and generate more takeaways through pressure defense.
