DENMARK, S.C. – With the regular season winding down and postseason play fast approaching, Carolina University Women's Basketball looked to build momentum Tuesday night in a road matchup at Voorhees University. Despite a competitive effort, the Bruins fell 73-66 in the February 10 contest.
Carolina faced an early deficit after Voorhees opened the game with a strong first quarter, outscoring the Bruins 23-12. The Bruins responded in the second period behind improved perimeter shooting, cutting into the lead and heading into halftime within striking distance.
Angelina Jordan led the offensive charge for Carolina, finishing with 18 points while shooting an efficient 7-for-11 from the field and 4-for-5 from three-point range. Dearia Page and Jakyiiah Willis each added 17 points, combining to provide the bulk of the Bruins' scoring production.
MeiLani Patterson controlled the glass with a team-high 13 rebounds, helping Carolina stay competitive in second-chance opportunities and interior play.
The Bruins continued to battle throughout the second half, trimming the deficit to a one-possession game in the third quarter. However, timely scoring from Voorhees down the stretch allowed the home team to hold off Carolina's late push.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais Quote:
"I'm proud of the fight our group showed tonight. We had moments where we executed well and played with the intensity we'll need heading into the postseason. Now it's about putting together four complete quarters as we prepare for another opportunity against this same opponent."
Carolina will have a quick turnaround as they prepare to face Voorhees again on Tuesday, February 17, this time at home. The matchup will be part of a doubleheader with the Men's Basketball team and will also serve as Senior Night for the Bruins, providing an added layer of motivation as Carolina looks to build momentum heading into postseason play.
