PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Carolina University Men's Soccer saw its unbeaten start to the 2026 season come to an end Friday night, as the Bruins fell 5-2 to the University of Pikeville at Bob Amos Park.
Carolina entered the September 4 matchup with a perfect 3-0 record, but a strong Pikeville attack handed the Bruins their first setback of the young season. The loss moves Carolina to 3-1 overall, while Pikeville improved to 2-0-1.
Pikeville jumped out to an early advantage, scoring in the seventh and 10th minutes to put Carolina in a quick 2-0 deficit. The Bruins responded in the 25th minute when Kyryl Dmytryk found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Will McCamley provided the assist, cutting the Pikeville advantage to 2-1.
Carolina carried the one-goal deficit into halftime after producing four shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Pikeville regained control early in the second half. Dylan Roberts scored his second goal of the match in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. The Bears added goals from Amogelang Mofokeng in the 70th minute and Yali Cohen in the 75th minute to push their advantage to 5-1.
Despite the deficit, the Bruins continued to battle through the final whistle. Carolina generated four corner kicks in the second half and put pressure on the Pikeville goal late in the contest. Carlos Ramirez capped the night with a goal in the 90th minute, giving the Bruins their second goal and producing the final 5-2 score.
Carolina finished with eight shots, placing seven on goal, while Pikeville recorded 13 shots with 11 on target. The Bruins held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Isaac Bunton played all 90 minutes and recorded six saves.
"Tonight was a difficult result, but these are the types of matches that can help us grow as a team," Head Coach Craig Golding said. "We put ourselves in a tough position early, but I was pleased that our guys continued to compete and fight until the final whistle. We have a quick turnaround ahead of us, and our focus now is learning from this performance, getting back to work, and preparing for two challenging matches in Florida."
The Bruins will look to bounce back during a two-match road trip to Florida. Carolina will face Webber International University on Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. before taking on Warner University on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m.
