WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Carolina University Women's Volleyball capped off a perfect week Saturday morning with a dominant straight-set victory over Wesleyan College (Ga.) inside Williams Gymnasium.
Playing their third match of the week, the Bruins entered Saturday looking to finish the stretch 3-0. Carolina accomplished just that, defeating Wesleyan 25-6, 25-13 and 25-10 to earn the 3-0 sweep and improve to 7-7 on the season.
Carolina established control immediately in the opening set. The Bruins overwhelmed Wesleyan 25-6 before continuing their strong play with a 25-13 victory in the second. CU closed out the morning with another convincing performance in the third, taking the set 25-10 to secure the sweep.
The Bruins produced a balanced offensive performance, finishing with 36 kills while hitting .235 as a team. Carolina was especially effective in the opening set, recording 13 kills with only four errors on 28 attempts for a .321 hitting percentage.
Kennedy Dobard led the Carolina attack with an impressive performance, putting down a match-high 10 kills on 15 attempts with just one error for a .600 hitting percentage. She also recorded a solo block and finished with a team-high 11 points. SarahElizabeth Samuels and Melia Coleman each hit .667, while Carlota Lobete and Madison Kilgore added four kills apiece.
The Bruins also controlled the match from the service line and defensively. Carolina recorded 10 service aces and 65 digs while holding Wesleyan to eight kills and a -.086 hitting percentage. Natalia Cano led CU with three aces and 13 assists, while Charlee Hale contributed two aces and a match-high 17 digs. Emma-Grace Dubuc added 10 digs.
Head Coach Chelsea Jones was pleased with the way her team handled a demanding week and continued to build momentum.
"I'm proud of the way our team approached this week," Jones said. "Playing three matches in one week requires us to stay focused and bring consistent energy every time we step on the court. We were able to get contributions from throughout our roster today, and finishing the week 3-0 is something we can continue to build on. Now our focus is on carrying that momentum forward and continuing to improve as a team."
With Saturday's victory, Carolina moves back to .500 at 7-7 overall and completes an undefeated 3-0 week. The Bruins will look to carry that momentum into next week as they travel to Columbia College on Tuesday, September 15 for a 6pm match.
