CLEMMONS, N.C. – The Carolina University Bruins Softball team returned to Wilson Park on Thursday afternoon looking to respond after a midweek setback, but fell in both games of a doubleheader to Milligan University on March 19.
Carolina, which had avoided back-to-back doubleheader losses on the young season, moves forward with an opportunity to rebound as conference play begins this weekend.
Game 1: Milligan 8, Carolina 1
Milligan used a five-run fifth inning to break open a tight contest and secure an 8-1 victory in game one.
The Bruins kept things competitive early, holding Milligan to just a 1-0 lead through three innings. Carolina broke through in the fourth inning when Emma-Lea Cabral drove in Nathaly Ochoa to tie the game at 1-1.
However, the Buffaloes responded in the fifth inning with five runs on three hits and capitalized on defensive miscues to take control for good.

Game 2: Milligan 10, Carolina 1
In game two, Milligan struck early with a six-run first inning and never looked back, defeating Carolina 10-1 in five innings.
The Bruins had difficulty slowing the Buffaloes' offense early, as Milligan capitalized on walks and timely hitting to jump out to a commanding lead.
Carolina found a run in the fifth inning when Jocelyn DeMoss recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly, scoring Stacie Sanders.

Coach's Comments
"We're a young group that's still learning how to respond in tough moments," said Interim Head Coach Danielle Brooks. "We showed flashes of what we're capable of, but consistency and limiting mistakes will be key for us moving forward. The focus now is turning the page quickly and being ready for conference play this weekend."
