KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Carolina University Women's Soccer continued its strong run of form on Saturday, October 3, as the Bruins traveled to Tennessee and earned a convincing 4-0 victory over Johnson University, extending their winning streak to four consecutive matches.
Carolina controlled the match from the opening half, scoring twice before the break and adding two more goals in the second half. The Bruins improved to 4-2-3 overall with the victory.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Peyton Battilla found the back of the net off an assist from Kelsey Brown. Carolina doubled its advantage at the 28:56 mark when Ashley Sanchez scored to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Carolina wasted little time adding to its lead after the break. Just over three minutes into the second half, Chelsea Prescott scored off an assist from Alexa Anderson, extending the advantage to 3-0. Emma Fuerbacher capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, finishing a pass from Destini Wilson to secure the 4-0 road victory.
The Bruins finished the afternoon with a 13-6 advantage in shots, placing eight attempts on goal. Carolina's defense also turned in another impressive performance, keeping Johnson off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez earned the shutout in goal, while the Bruins' defensive unit held Johnson to just three shots on goal.
Head Coach Boo Tesh was pleased with the complete performance as Carolina continued building momentum.
"I'm really proud of the way our group continues to compete and grow together," Tesh said. "Winning four straight takes consistency, and I thought we did a good job of setting the tone early and continuing to push throughout the match. We had contributions from a lot of different players, and getting another clean sheet shows the commitment our entire group has defensively. We want to keep building on this momentum as we move into the next part of our schedule."
Carolina University will return to action on Saturday, October 10, when the Bruins take on Shaw University. It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season after Carolina earned a 2-0 victory over Shaw on September 25.
