BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – Carolina University Women's Soccer continued its winning ways Monday afternoon, defeating Shaw University 3-2 at Truist Sports Park to extend its winning streak to five consecutive matches. Alexa Anderson led the Bruins with two second-half goals, helping Carolina complete the season sweep of the Bears after previously earning a 2-0 victory earlier this year.
Shaw struck first when Camila Prieto scored just three minutes into the contest. The Bruins responded in the 35th minute as Ashley Sanchez netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from McKenna Voncannon, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.
Carolina took control early in the second half behind Alexa Anderson, who scored in the 51st minute to give the Bruins a 2-1 advantage. Alexa Anderson added her second goal in the 68th minute, extending the lead to 3-1. Shaw's Jasmine Rennie cut the deficit to one in the 86th minute, but the Bruins held on for the 3-2 victory.
The Bruins controlled the offensive opportunities, outshooting Shaw 21-12, including a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. Anderson finished with two goals, while Ashley Sanchez added a goal and McKenna Voncannon recorded an assist. With the victory, Carolina improves to 5-2-3 on the season, while Shaw falls to 2-8-1.
