Carolina and Montreat Men’s Soccer Battle to 3-3 Draw

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Carolina University Men's Soccer responded to its recent setback with a resilient road performance Wednesday evening, battling Montreat College to a 3-3 draw at Pulliam Stadium.

Coming off a loss to West Virginia Tech, the Bruins entered the September 30 matchup looking to get back in the win column. Carolina controlled much of the attacking play, finishing with a 19-12 advantage in shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. The draw moved Carolina to 6-2-1 on the season. The Bruins opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Sonny West found the back of the net off an assist from Kyryl Dmytryk. Carolina quickly doubled its advantage less than two minutes later as Dmytryk scored his fourth goal of the season, with West and Nicolas Meurer providing the assists.

Montreat responded with two goals before halftime. Emmanuel Ntimeh cut the Bruins' advantage to 2-1 in the 30th minute before Ricardas Milasius equalized in the 42nd minute, sending the teams into halftime tied at 2-2.

The Cavaliers took their first lead of the night in the 59th minute when Milasius scored his second goal of the match to put Montreat ahead, 3-2. Carolina continued to push forward in search of an equalizer.

That persistence paid off in the 85th minute. Kyryl Dmytryk struck for his second goal of the match and fifth of the season, bringing the Bruins level at 3-3 with just under six minutes remaining. Carolina continued attacking down the stretch, earning two corner kicks in the final two minutes, but neither side could find the deciding goal.

Kyryl Dmytryk led the Bruins with two goals and an assist, while Sonny West finished with one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Andre Rojas Chavez played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.

"I was proud of the way our guys continued to battle tonight," Head Coach Craig Golding said. "We started the match well and created a lot of opportunities, but Montreat made things difficult for us. Going down in the second half and finding a way to respond late showed the character of this group. We'll learn from this one and turn our attention to Senior Night."

Carolina University will return home on Monday, October 5, when the Bruins host Warren Wilson College at 7 p.m. Carolina will honor its seniors as part of Senior Night festivities prior to the match.
