WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Carolina University Men's Soccer made Senior Night a memorable one Monday, October 5, as the Bruins honored 11 seniors before turning in a commanding performance against Warren Wilson College at Truist Sports Park.
Carolina controlled the match from start to finish, earning a 5-0 victory to improve to 7-2-1 on the season. The Bruins outshot Warren Wilson 21-9, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Carolina also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
After a scoreless opening 29 minutes, the Bruins broke through when Carlos Ramirez found the back of the net at the 29:54 mark. Just over four minutes later, Dominic Thieler doubled the advantage off an assist from Djordy Lefevere. Tlotlo Lekobane then converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute to send Carolina into halftime with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Bruins continued to apply pressure after the break. Mateusz Zaparuszewski scored in the 62nd minute off an assist from Joseph Cox, extending the advantage to 4-0. Ramirez put the finishing touches on the Senior Night victory in the 81st minute, scoring his second goal of the evening following an assist from Steven Saavedra.
Carolina's defense was equally impressive, recording the clean sheet while limiting Warren Wilson to just two shots on goal. Isaac Bunton and Andre Rojas Chavez each played 45 minutes in goal and recorded one save apiece.
"Senior Night is always special because it gives us an opportunity to recognize the guys who have invested so much into this program," Head Coach Craig Golding said. "I was proud of the way the entire group approached tonight. We wanted to honor our seniors by playing with energy, discipline and togetherness, and I thought we did that. Now our attention turns quickly to a very important match on Wednesday, and we have to be ready to bring that same level of focus."
The Bruins will have a quick turnaround as they remain at home to face Columbia International University (CIU) on Wednesday, October 7, at 7 p.m.
