BERMUDA RUN, N.C. – The Carolina University Women's Soccer team continued its impressive run of form Saturday afternoon, extending its winning streak to six consecutive matches with a 2-0 shutout victory over Fisher College in the final match of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Classic at Truist Sports Park.
Entering Saturday's contest riding a five-match winning streak, the Bruins had been dominant on both sides of the ball, outscoring their opponents 23-2 during that stretch. Looking to keep their momentum rolling, Carolina University delivered another strong performance, combining timely scoring with a disciplined defensive effort to secure its sixth straight victory.
The Bruins wasted little time establishing control of the match. The Bruins carried that momentum into the second half, creating several scoring opportunities while keeping Fisher College off the scoreboard. Carolina's defense remained organized throughout the contest, limiting the Falcons' opportunities and preserving the shutout.
In the 82nd minute, McKenna Voncannon provided the insurance goal for the Bruins, finding the back of the net off an assist from Karmen Smith. The goal, Voncannon's first of the season, extended Carolina University's lead to 2-0 and sealed another impressive victory.
Carolina University finished the afternoon with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including six shots on goal, while holding an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Ashley Sanchez led the Bruins with four shots, including three on target, while Alexa Anderson added four shots. Goalkeeper Waleska Gonzalez delivered another outstanding performance between the posts, recording four saves in a full 90 minutes to earn the shutout.
With the victory, the Bruins improved to 6-2-3 on the season and extended their winning streak to six matches, during which they have outscored opponents by an impressive 25-2 margin.
Head Coach Boo Tesh reflected on his team's continued success and the momentum they have built during their winning streak.
"We are extremely proud of the way our team has continued to compete and grow throughout this winning streak. Winning six straight games takes a complete team effort, and our players have really bought into what we are trying to accomplish. Defensively, we have been disciplined, and offensively, we are creating opportunities and finding ways to finish. The confidence and chemistry within this group continue to improve, but we know there is still work to be done. Our focus now is on continuing to build momentum and preparing for another important match on Tuesday."
