Carolina University Men’s Volleyball Preseason Preview

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Carolina University men's volleyball program enters the 2026 season with renewed direction and growing confidence under the leadership of head coach Jake Boldog, who begins his second year at the helm of the program.

Boldog, a graduate of North Greenville University and former member of the North Greenville men's volleyball program, took over the reins of the Bruins last season. Year one was marked by growth, adjustment, and mutual learning between staff and student-athletes as the program laid its foundation, finishing the season with a 4–17 overall record.

Entering year two, Boldog has firmly established the program's standards, expectations, and culture, positioning Carolina to take a competitive step forward in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

"Year one was about learning each other and building trust," said Boldog. "This season, our guys understand the expectations and the work required to compete at a higher level. The foundation is set, and now it's about execution."

Returning Experience

Carolina returns four key contributors from last season who bring experience and continuity into the 2026 campaign.

  • Sophomore DS/L Joshua Moss appeared in 32 sets, providing serve-receive stability and totaling 24 digs.

  • Sophomore DS/L Ruben Ordonez saw action in 25 sets, recording 27 digs and contributing defensively in the back row.

  • Senior MB/OH Fritz Hall was one of the team's primary attackers, appearing in all 69 sets with 91 kills, 27 service aces, 83 digs, and 16 total blocks.

  • Sophomore Setter Kai Jamerson served as the team's offensive leader, recording 363 assists (5.26 assists per set), while adding 76 digs, 20 service aces, and 23 total blocks.

Their production and leadership form the backbone of a roster looking to take the next step competitively.

New Faces and Staff Additions

Boldog also welcomes a freshman class of eight newcomers who will add depth and athleticism across the lineup. The coaching staff has been strengthened with the addition of Wesley Diggs, a former four-year starter for the Carolina University men's volleyball program. Diggs' familiarity with the program and firsthand experience as a Bruin provide valuable insight and continuity on the bench.

"Having someone on staff who understands Carolina volleyball and what it takes to compete here is huge," Boldog said. "Wesley brings energy, knowledge, and credibility to our gym."

Looking Ahead

With a full offseason of development, a defined culture, and a blend of returning contributors and new talent, Carolina enters the 2026 season focused on competing within the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Bruins will open the 2026 campaign on Monday, January 19, traveling to Warren Wilson for a 6:00 p.m. match to begin the season.

As year two under Jake Boldog begins, Carolina University men's volleyball looks poised to turn foundational progress into competitive results on the court.
