Carolina University Splits Tri-Match at Salem College

Winston-Salem, N.C. – September 20, 2025 – Carolina University Women's Volleyball extended its winning streak to seven matches with a four-set victory over NC Wesleyan before falling in straight sets to host Salem College in Saturday's tri-match.

Match One: Carolina 3, NC Wesleyan 1

The Bruins opened the day with a hard-fought win over NC Wesleyan by scores of 25-15, 25-27, 25-17, and 25-15.

  • Britney Comolli led the attack with 12 kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
     

  • SarahElizabeth Samuels added 11 kills on .345 hitting, while Karli Totel contributed 8 kills and 9.5 points.
     

  • Setter Syvannah Poore orchestrated the offense with 18 assists and added 12 digs.
     

  • Defensively, Valeria Suarez anchored the back row with a match-high 25 digs.
     

As a team, CU hit .219 compared to NC Wesleyan's .048, while also posting 73 digs and 6 service aces.

Match Two: Salem 3, Carolina 0

In the nightcap, Carolina fell to Salem College 25-17, 25-10, 25-21.

  • Samuels once again paced the Bruins with 10 kills and 12 total points.
     

  • Totel chipped in 7 kills, while Poore tallied 20 assists and 6 digs.
     

  • Suarez continued her strong defensive play with 10 digs.
     

The Bruins were limited to a .126 hitting percentage against a balanced Salem attack that posted .252 with three players in double-digit kills.

Head Coach Chelsea Jones reflected on the day:

"I'm proud of how our team battled against NC Wesleyan to extend our winning streak. We showed composure in key moments and spread the offense well. Salem is a strong program, and while the result wasn't what we wanted, it gave us valuable lessons. We'll use this to keep improving as we head into the heart of our season."

Looking Ahead

Carolina University (10–5) will return to action on Tuesday, September 23, traveling to face Warren Wilson College. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
