Carolina Volleyball Competes at Cumberlands Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — August 30, 2025 — The Carolina University Women's Volleyball team faced two strong opponents on Saturday at the Cumberlands Invitational, falling in straight sets to Montana Tech and the host team University of the Cumberlands.

In the morning matchup, Carolina battled Montana Tech but came up short 25–21, 25–15, 25–15. Senior outside hitter SarahElizabeth Samuels led the Bruins with 10 kills on an impressive .429 hitting percentage, while Britney Comolli added eight kills. Setter Syvannah Poore handed out 17 assists and recorded two service aces. Defensively, Valeria Suarez posted seven digs. Despite the effort, Montana Tech's offensive efficiency proved decisive, hitting .405 as a team.

In the afternoon contest against host Cumberlands, the Bruins fell 25–13, 25–13, 25–21. Kammi Naude and Samuels combined for eight kills, while Natalia Cano directed the offense with eight assists and added six digs. Suarez once again led the defensive unit with 11 digs. Carolina rallied in the third set to push the Patriots but could not extend the match.

Head Coach Chelsea Jones reflected on the day's competition:

"We faced two very strong programs today, and while the scores don't reflect the effort, I'm proud of how our team battled. These are the types of matches that help us grow and prepare for future matches."

With the results, Carolina moves to 1–2 on the season. The Bruins will return home for their home opener against Paine College on Tuesday, September 2 at 5:00 p.m.
