Winston-Salem, N.C. — September 2, 2025 — Carolina University Women's Volleyball earned a commanding victory in their home opener, defeating Paine College 3–0 (25–15, 25–14, 25–10) at Williams Gymnasium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 2–2 on the season.
Carolina's offense was balanced throughout the match, with Karli Totel leading the way with 7 kills on an efficient .429 hitting percentage. Junior SarahElizabeth Samuels added 7 kills of her own at a .500 clip, while Jordan Connolly was nearly perfect with 5 kills and no errors (.833). The Bruins' front row overpowered the Lions, tallying 41 total kills compared to Paine's 16.
Setter Syvannah Poore orchestrated the attack with 13 assists and chipped in 3 service aces. Valeria Suarez also made her mark from the service line with a match-high 5 aces. Defensively, Carolina posted 37 digs as a team, with libero Kai Horta collecting 8 to anchor the back row.
Paine College, playing in its season opener, was unable to find rhythm against Carolina's pressure. Jamaya Allen led the Lions with 8 kills, but CU's blocking and defensive adjustments kept the visitors at bay.
Head Coach Chelsea Jones praised her team's execution and energy following the win:
"I was really proud of how our team responded at home today. We stayed aggressive at the net and served with confidence, which set the tone early. This was a complete team effort, and it gives us great momentum moving forward."
Carolina University returns to action later this week, as they travel to Roanoke, Virginia and compete in the Maroon Classic with two matches on Friday and two matches on Saturday.
