Carolina University secured a spot in the conference championship game after defeating Northern New Mexico 74-61 in Game 2 of the tournament at Coffin Complex. Carolina controlled the game with strong shooting and solid defense, using a dominant second half to pull away.
First Half:
Carolina started off steady, maintaining a small lead throughout most of the first half.
Aundree Polk set the tone early, scoring inside and grabbing key rebounds to keep Carolina ahead.
Chris High contributed from beyond the arc, knocking down two three-pointers to extend the lead. Carolina struggled with turnovers, committing six in the first half, which allowed Northern New Mexico to stay within reach. However, Carolina's defense held Northern New Mexico to 37% shooting and just 1-for-7 from three, keeping them from gaining momentum. At halftime, Carolina led 32-27.
Second Half:
Carolina came out strong after the break, improving their offensive efficiency and shooting 50% from the field in the second half.
Chris High found his rhythm, hitting three more three-pointers to push the lead further.
Davon Cottle also stepped up, knocking down two big threes to keep Northern New Mexico from closing the gap. Defensively, Carolina forced several key turnovers and held their opponent to 42.9% shooting.
Top Performers
Carolina finished the game shooting 43.6% from the field and 36.7% from three, while holding Northern New Mexico to 40% shooting and forcing 14 turnovers.
