Laurinburg, NC – Carolina University men's volleyball traveled to face the Knights of St. Andrews University last night. The Bruins emerged victorious in four tightly contested sets, with scores of 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-22.
After a timeout in the first set, the Bruins fought back from a 19-23 deficit. The Blue and Gold went on a 3-point run to narrow the gap to 22-23, just one point away from the Knights. Unfortunately, a service error and an ace by the Knights sealed the Bruins' fate, and they dropped the first set.
The Bruins responded strongly, determined to finish the match in four sets. Darren LoweGaillard led the offensive charge, recording 10 kills and finishing with an impressive hitting percentage of .400%. His performance was supported by setter Kai Jamerson, who tallied 29 assists throughout the match.
Defensively, the Bruins held their ground, with Wesley Diggs leading the way with 6 digs, anchoring the team's serve receive. A key factor in last night's win was the Bruins' aggressive serving. Friedrich Hall contributed 4 aces, while Jashawn Sykes added 3.
Men's volleyball will return to action on Friday, February 7th, at 6:00 PM as they take on the Rams of Bluefield University.
