Carolina University's men's basketball, the #8 seed in the CAC tournament, delivered an incredible performance, upsetting the #1 seed Florida College 86-80 in the first round of the tournament on February 27, 2025, at the Coffin Complex in Lawrence, KS.
First Half: Carolina Takes Control
The Bruins came out strong in the first half, building a 39-29 lead by halftime.
Davon Cottle led the charge, providing a strong offensive performance with 12 points and 2 rebounds. Carolina's defense also played a critical role in limiting Florida College's offense, holding them to just 29 points in the first half.
Second Half: Holding Off Florida's Rally
Florida College made a push in the second half, outscoring the Bruins 51-47, but Carolina held strong in the closing minutes.
Aundree Polk came alive finishing the game with a double-double, 25 points and 15 rebounds, while Zivko Damjanovic added 10 points and 5 rebounds to give the Bruins stability in the paint.
Key Performers:
Florida College was led by Johnny Torrence, who scored 17 points off the bench, and Nate Duda, who added 15 points. Despite their late push, the top-seeded Falcons couldn't overcome Carolina's strong play.
Looking Ahead
With the upset victory, Carolina University advances to the Continental Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The Bruins will face the winner of Game 4: No. 4 Fisher College vs. No. 5 Northern New Mexico College on Saturday, March 1 st .
