Lady Bruins Battle at No. 13 Rio Grande

December 6, 2025 – Rio Grande, Ohio
Carolina University Women's Basketball returned from the Thanksgiving break with momentum following their first win of the season, but the challenge intensified on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bruins traveled to face No. 13 Rio Grande for the second meeting between the teams.

In their first matchup back on November 11, Rio Grande claimed a 108–53 victory. Saturday's rematch saw the Bruins show stretches of strong play—including a 14-point opening quarter—but the nationally ranked RedStorm ultimately pulled away for a 92–50 decision.

Carolina was led by Jakyiiah Willis, who posted 12 points, including two early three-pointers that helped the Bruins stay close in the opening minutes. Angelina Jordan added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, while MeiLani Patterson contributed 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Ja'Nisha Caldwell turned in a strong performance on the boards with a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 8 points and 5 steals.

The Lady Bruins opened the game with confidence, knocking down six first-quarter field goals and shooting 46% from the floor in the opening frame. Despite creating early scoring opportunities, Carolina struggled to maintain pace with Rio Grande's interior scoring and bench production as the game progressed. The RedStorm finished with 60 points in the paint and 33 from the bench.

Coach Hannah Latiolais' Postgame Thoughts

"Coming off the break, our group showed energy and competed from the start," said Head Coach Hannah Latiolais. "Rio Grande is a top-15 program for a reason, but I'm proud of the moments where we executed well and showed growth. We'll use this experience to prepare for a busy stretch ahead."

Looking Ahead

Carolina continues its December slate on Wednesday, December 10, when the Lady Bruins travel to Morris College for a 1:00 PM tipoff. The team aims to build upon the positives from Saturday as they move into a critical portion of their non-conference schedule.
