WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — December 10, 2025 — After navigating one of the toughest non-conference slates in the NAIA—including multiple matchups against nationally ranked opponents—the Carolina University Women's Basketball team returned home to Williams Gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon and delivered a resilient performance to secure a 57–47 conference victory over Morris College.
The Lady Bruins entered the contest at 1–8, hungry to reset the tone as CAC action began. Morris College arrived at 3–2 and opened the game with early energy, resulting in a tightly contested first quarter. Carolina edged ahead 10–8 after the opening frame, setting the stage for a defensive battle.
The second quarter remained evenly matched, with both teams scoring 14 points. Coming out of halftime, Carolina seized full momentum. Behind efficient shooting and strong defensive stops, the Lady Bruins erupted for 22 third-quarter points, creating the separation they needed. Carolina's advantage grew to as many as 21 points as the offense clicked from the perimeter and on the break.
Morris made a late push in the fourth quarter, but Carolina stood firm to close out its first CAC win of the season.
Carolina was fueled by a balanced offensive effort. Jakyiiah Willis led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Angelina Jordan added 15 points, including three timely three-pointers. MeiLani Patterson delivered a dominant outing on the glass, securing 15 rebounds and adding 12 points for a well-earned double-double. As a group, the Lady Bruins shot 35.6% from the field and an impressive 87.5% from the free-throw line.
Head Coach Hannah Latiolais praised her team's toughness after the game:
"After a really tough non-conference stretch, it feels like we're starting to turn the corner and come together as a team. I'm incredibly proud of our toughness and the way we battled today. To fight it out and earn our first conference win says a lot about this group and the direction we're heading."
With the victory, Carolina University begins CAC play at 1–0 and improves to 2–8 overall.
The Lady Bruins return to action on Saturday, December 13, when they host West Virginia Tech. Tipoff inside Williams Gymnasium is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
