December 3, 2025 — Salisbury, N.C.
Carolina University Women's Basketball returned to action Wednesday evening after an extended Thanksgiving break, traveling to Livingstone College for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. Coming off their first win of the season against Paine College on November 22, the Bruins looked to build momentum but were unable to overcome a strong Blue Bear performance, falling 77–41 at New Trent Gym.
Livingstone jumped ahead early and kept control throughout, outscoring Carolina in each quarter. Despite the final score, the Bruins saw standout efforts from Ja'Nisha Caldwell, who led the team with 14 points and 9 rebounds, and Jakyiiah Willis, who contributed 9 points, including a team-best 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Carolina also battled on the boards, finishing with 37 total rebounds, highlighted by Caldwell's presence inside.
Offensive efficiency proved to be the primary challenge for the Bruins, who shot 15-of-78 from the field and 4-of-33 from three-point range. Defensively, Carolina forced several turnovers and continued to show flashes of growth that head coach Hannah Latiolais has emphasized during the early, competitive stretch of the season.
The setback comes amid a rigorous non-conference schedule that has included multiple Top-25 opponents—tests that Coach Latiolais believes will continue shaping her young group as they progress deeper into the year.
Carolina (1–7) will now shift focus to another nationally ranked challenge as they travel to face No. 13 Rio Grande on Saturday, December 6. The two teams met earlier this season, with the RedStorm earning a 108–53 victory. The Bruins aim to showcase their improvements and bring renewed intensity into the rematch.
Tipoff in Rio Grande is set for Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
