Georgetown, Ky. – In her debut at the helm of Carolina University Women's Basketball, Head Coach Hannah Latiolais and the Bruins faced a challenging opponent on the road, falling to Georgetown College, 109–60, on Saturday afternoon inside Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
Despite the final margin, Carolina showed moments of promise and competitive energy early, keeping the game close through the opening quarter and trailing just 24–19 after ten minutes of play. The Bruins demonstrated grit and offensive movement, highlighted by Dearia Page, who led all Carolina scorers with 23 points and 9 rebounds, displaying relentless effort on both ends of the floor.
Graduate guard Sy-Marieona Williams added 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while MeiLani Patterson and Ja'Nisha Caldwell chipped in 9 points each, contributing valuable minutes across multiple stretches of play. Aniyah Robinson also provided a steady presence on the glass, pulling down six rebounds and recording two steals for the Bruins.
As the game progressed, Georgetown's size, pace, and three-point shooting created separation. The Tigers, led by a 36-point performance from Daysha Reid, connected on 16-of-37 from beyond the arc (43%) and maintained a steady offensive rhythm throughout all four quarters. Georgetown used a 36-point third quarter to break the game open and out-rebounded Carolina 54–45 overall.
Coach Latiolais praised her team's effort despite the result:
"We knew this was going to be a tough early test against a very strong and experienced program," Latiolais said. "Our focus is on growth and learning from each possession. I'm proud of how our players competed, especially in those opening quarters. These moments are part of the process as we continue to build our identity and chemistry together."
Carolina finished the game shooting 33.3% from the field and grabbed 45 rebounds, including 15 on the offensive end, showing a commitment to hustle and second-chance opportunities. The Bruins also recorded six steals as they continued to apply defensive pressure throughout the contest.
The loss moves Carolina to 0–1 on the young season, while Georgetown improves to 4–0. The Bruins will look to regroup and continue developing under Coach Latiolais' leadership as they prepare for their next matchup.
