Pikeville, KY – Carolina University Men's Soccer traveled to the University of Pikeville and emerged victorious with a stunning 8-0 win over the Bears.
The Bruins' offense was unstoppable in this commanding shutout, with goals scored by eight different players—three in the first half and five in the second. Senior Owen Vaughn ignited the scoring frenzy with a goal assisted by Luigi Piccoli, who quickly followed up with a goal of his own just a minute later, bringing the score to 2-0. Piccoli capped off a strong first half by assisting Karell Buitendijk, securing a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Bruins maintained their momentum in the second half, adding five more goals to the tally. Atikilt Tamiru opened the scoring after the break, and despite the Bears' attempts to find the net, goalkeeper Joshua Wilson was solid in goal, making key 4 saves. Luke Spillane-Davis scored shortly after a turnover, further extending the Bruins' lead 5-0. As time dwindled down, the Blue and Gold continued to capitalize on the Bears' errors. Nathan Rue delivered a corner kick that Jose Noriega converted into a goal. With the Bruins now making substitutions to bring in fresh legs, Henrique Buccini entered the game and quickly found the net, adding to the score.
With only 15 seconds left on the clock, Lewis Jacklin sealed the Bears' fate by scoring the eighth and final goal of the evening. This impressive performance also marked a standout night for Luigi Piccoli, who recorded three assists.
Last night's impressive display further solidifies the Bruins' third-place ranking in the NCCAA. Men's Soccer will return to action on September 27th, facing the Lions of Greensboro College away at 6:00 PM.
