Salisbury, NC- Carolina University Softball earned another sweep in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Bears of Livingstone College. The Bruins are now on a 7 game-win streak and will carry the momentum into the weekend.
Offensively the Lady Bruins made quick work, scoring 1 run in the first and two in the 3rd. The Blue and Gold were able to finish on a high note, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 7th. The Bruins came out on top in the first game 13-1. Game 2 had a slower start but once again the Bruins scored the majority of their runs in the last inning, finishing 7-5.
Game 1
Starting strong Graduate student Grace Johnson wasted no time with a double. ZyMaijah Thomas followed, doubling to right field, advancing Johnson to home plate earning the Bruins' first run of the game.
In the top of the third Grace Andrews took advantage of the Bear's pitching error and walked to first. Alexis Wynne singled, advancing Andrews to second, then both baserunners advanced again on a wild pitch. Johnson tallied an RBI on a sacrifice ball, bringing Andrews back to home plate. Daniele Brooks then stepped up to the plate with two baserunners, Brooks singled through the right side bringing both base runners home, and ringing in a pitching change for the Bears at 4-0.
In the top of the 7th, the Bruins scored 6 runs. With the score 7-1 and two base runners on, Andrews sent a double down the left field line bringing both base runners home and making the score 9-1. The Blue and Gold finished the 7th inning 13-1.
Danielle Brooks pitched 7 innings for the Bruins, she had 6 strikeouts and 0 errors.
Grace Johnson, Grace Andrews, and ZyMaijah Thomas all had 3 RBIs and 1 double each.
Game 2
The Bruins finished the 2nd game 7-5, earning 5 of their runs in the 7th inning. The Bears thought they had beaten the Bruins, until the last inning when Thomas stepped up to the plate. Delivering a double to center field earning two runs for the Blue and Gold to make the score 4-5. The Bruins did not take their foot off the gas. Kalea Bolch singled bringing Thomas home, and with two base runners on Leigha James doubled bringing both runners home, making the final score 7-5. The Bears were unable to score any runs in the bottom of the 7th.
Leigha James had 3 RBIs and 2 doubles in game 2, and Kalea Bolch had 10 POs.
