Volleyball Falls in 4

Winston-Salem, NC- The Carolina University Men's Volleyball team hosted the Eagles of Life University last night. The Eagles were able to overcome the Bruins in 4 sets with scores of 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, and 25-20.

The Bruins took set 1 from the Eagles after going back and forth in the beginning. Once the score reached 13-14, the Blue and Gold took off. After a service error from the Eagles, Mason Kenna went on a 3-point offensive run, putting the ball away for the Bruins. With the score now 17-14 the Blue and Gold did not lose their momentum and kept the lead the remainder of the way, finishing the set 25-22.

The Eagles were just barely able to take the hard-fought 2nd set 25-27, the Bruins maintained the lead up until 25-25. After 2 errors by the Bruins, they moved into the 3rd set.

Offensively Austin Jeter started the 3rd set off strong with a kill to side out. Jeter had 12 kills in tonight's game. The Bruins lost the lead early in the set and were not able to get it back, finishing 21-25.

Bryson Abernathy led the team with 15 kills, hitting an impressive .370%. Abernathy tabbed his 500th career kill in last night's match up, made possible by Freshman setter Brandon Hollifield, who tallied 39 assists in 4 sets.

Middles Jacob Brown and Andrew Jackson tallied 2 block assists and 1 solo block each. Both of the Bruins middles hit a well-earned .333%. Outside Mason Kenna tallied 3 blocks as well, 2 assisted and 1 solo.

The Bruins libero Carson Pearce was relentless, tallying 7 digs and leading the Bruins' defense.

"Last night's match was a great game, and unfortunately, we came out on the wrong end of it. I'm proud of the resiliency the guys showed. We looked pretty good offensively, especially in the first set hitting .333. Really tough 2nd set. We battled back after being down 23-19 and had an opportunity to take the set, we just weren't able to finish. We have a few things to fix here and there, but we are making great strides in the right direction. Big congratulations to Bryson, for getting his 500th career kill and becoming the all-time career kills leader. It's a testament to his hard work and dedication to CU Men's volleyball. Looking forward to getting back to practice to clean up the small things and bounce back next week at St. Andrews." -Coach Drew Alewine
