Winston-Salem, NC – The Carolina University Women's Volleyball team faced off against William Peace University and Salem College in a tri-match this weekend, returning home with a record of 1-1 for the day.
In their first matchup against the Pacers of William Peace, the Bruins fought hard, taking the match to five sets and completing a reverse sweep with scores of 20-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, and 15-12. Setter Kamra King showcased her skills, leading the team with 16 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .346%, while also contributing 21 assists. Sion Murrian followed closely with 15 kills, boasting a hitting percentage of .423%. The Bruins displayed their offensive prowess, refusing to hold back. On defense, libero Rebecca Walker anchored the team, leading in digs and serve receive, providing crucial in-system balls that helped elevate the Bruins' hitting percentage. Walker recorded 17 digs in the five-set match.
In their second match of the day, the Bruins faced off against Salem College, falling 0-3 with scores of 24-26, 19-25, and 17-25. The Spirits gained the upper hand, and the Bruins struggled to stop their offense, finishing the match with a hitting percentage of just .131. The Spirits capitalized on the Bruins' errors to secure the win. Despite the loss, King led the team again with 8 kills, while Syvannah Poore had a strong performance with 5 aces from her aggressive serving.
Women's Volleyball will return to action on October 8th, taking on Guilford College away at 6:00 PM.
