Winston-Salem, NC - Carolina University Women's Volleyball (0-1) hosted Montreat College (1-0) in a hotly contested 3-2 season opening loss. 

The Cavaliers took the first two sets narrowly (25-21 and 25-18, respectively) before the Bruins came storming back for a 25-15 win in the third set, followed by a 25-21 win in the fourth. Montreat took an 8-3 lead in the fifth set, which proved insurmountable for Carolina. 

Leading the way for the Bruins offensively were newcomers SarahElizabeth Samuels (16 kills) and Camilla Garner (12 kills), while veteran setter Kamra King logged 26 assists in the contest. Defensively, Rebecca Walker recorded 20 digs with newcomers Garner and Erica Pasa both logging 5 blocks in their Bruins debut.

"I am so proud of the team tonight," said Head Coach Chelsea Jones. "Even though we didn't win in the record books, it was a huge step in the right direction. We have so many new faces on the team, so getting comfortable was the goal tonight, and I think they accomplished that."

The Bruins return to Williams Gymnasium this Saturday to host a tri-match with NCAA Division III opponent Ferrum College and NCCAA South Region rival Paine College.
