Clemmons, NC - Bruins Softball hosted Brevard College on Monday, March 20th. CU was looking to get back on track with another win in the double-header and took the first lead in the bottom of the second inning at 3-0. The Tornadoes tried to make a comeback in the top of the fifth inning with 4 runs, but the Bruins responded with another 4 runs to take it to 9-4. The Bruins continued their hot streak and finished out the game with a score of 11-4.Â
Carolina U carried the momentum into the start of the second game and were the first to score with 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brevard worked their way back into the game with a run in the third and another 2 runs in the fourth inning. The Bruins hit a homerun in the third inning and scored another 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Tornadoes were hot at the bat again in the fifth inning and scored 3 more runs, but it wasn't enough. The Bruins held on to the win at 7-6 in their second game of the day.Â
Game 1: Danielle Brooks pitched the complete game and claimed the win. Brooks had 6 strikeouts and only gave up 4 earned runs. Lyric Ryan led the Bruins offensively and was 2 of 4 with 4 RBIs. ZyMaijah Thomas and Leigha James were each 3 of 4 with an RBI and Thomas had a double. Danielle Brooks was also 3 of 4 and scored 2 runs.Â
Game 2: Kariya Proctor pitched 5 innings and claimed the win for the Bruins. Proctor struck out 4 batters and only allowed 1 earned run. Danielle Brooks pitched a little over an inning and claimed 3 strikeouts with no earned runs. Proctor did well offensively also, and was 2 of 3 with 2 doubles. Brooks was 2 of 3 with an RBI. Kourtney Cox did well at bat and was 2 of 3 with a homerun, a double, and 2 RBIs. ZyMaijah Thomas was 2 of 3 with an RBI.Â
