Clemmons, NC - Bruins Softball hosted Montreat College on Thursday, March 23rd in a double-header. Montreat started off in the lead with a run off of a sac fly in the first inning. The Bruins scored a run in the second inning but were down again after the Cavaliers had another 3 runs by the 5th inning. Carolina U scored 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth and worked to catch up with another 2 runs in the sixth. The scoreboard was tied up at 5-5 to start the final inning but Montreat was unable to get ahead. The Bruins finished the game with a single run in the 7th inning to close with a score of 6-5.Â
CU took the lead quickly to start the second game of the day with a score of 2-0 in the bottom of the first. The scoreboard didn't move until the fifth inning when Montreat scored a run. The Bruins followed it with another two runs and closed out the game with a score of 4-2.Â
Game 1: Danielle Brooks pitched a complete game to claim the win and struck out 5 batters and only allowed 3 earned runs. Brooks also did well offensively and went 2 of 3, had 2 RBIs, and a double. Kourtney Cox had a good day at bat and went 2 of 4 with an RBI.
Game 2: Kariya Proctor pitched 6 innings and struck out 3 batters from the mound. Proctor allowed no earned runs and was tagged with the win. Grace Crocker led the Bruins offensively and went 2 of 3 with an RBI and a double. ZyMaijah Thomas was 1 of 3 with an RBI and a sac fly. Lyric Ryan did well at the plate and was 2 of 2 with a sac fly.Â
Carolina University will play at Bluefield State University on Thursday, March 30th in a double-header.Â
