Charlotte, NC - Carolina University Women's Basketball played at Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, February 1st. This was a new matchup for the Bruins and it was a fight to the finish. CU did not let the Wildcats get a run in the first quarter, starting into the second quarter with a score of 17-20. The Wildcats stretched their lead to 7 points but the Bruins caught up quickly, going to halftime with a score of 32-34. In the first few minutes of the third quarter, Carolina took their first lead of the game. The teams traded baskets, tying up the game several times. In the start of the fourth quarter, JWU took a 6 point lead, but the Bruins clawed their way back. The game was tied at 66-66 but after a free throw by Carolina, the Bruins took the game 67-66.Â
Kevanika Brown played a major role in the win with 28 of 67 points, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. Denasia Mitchell scored 12 points and had 5 steals. Lailah Heard had 10 rebounds for the team and 7 points. Ashley Roberts grabbed 6 rebounds and Julisa Lang had 5.Â
