Mocksville, NC - Carolina University Baseball hosted Montreat College on Tuesday, February 14th in a double-header. Montreat took the lead to start the game, scoring 2 runs in the first inning and CU answered with 1 run. The Cavaliers proceeded to score 5 more runs by the fourth inning. The Bruins had another run in the fourth inning to make it 2-6. Though Montreat did not add anymore to the scoreboard, CU had 2 more runs. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make a comeback, finishing 4-6.Â
The second game of the day was significantly more high-scoring. It started off the same again with Montreat leading 2-1 in the first inning. The Bruins made a massive comeback with 7 runs in the third inning to take the score to 8-3. The Cavaliers scored 3 more runs in the fourth inning but by the next inning, CU scored another 6 runs, making the score 15-7 for the Bruins. Montreat had 3 more runs in the top of the 6th inning but the Bruins finished the game with a score of 15-10.Â
Game 1: Bryan Deegan and Kevin Greenwood were each 1 of 2 with a double. Deegan also had a walk. William Darder-Martin was 1 of 3 with a double. Victor Conrad pitched 2 innings and recorded 3 strikeouts. Chase Locklar pitched 3 innings and had 2 strikeouts and gave up 0 runs.Â
Game 2: Andres Hoyos was 1 of 3 with 2 RBIs and double. Antonio Briggers was 1 of 3 and had a double as well. Deion Tubbs did well at the plate and was 1 of 3 with a Grand Slam. Bryan Deegan also scored big for the Bruins and was 2 of 3 with a 3-run homerun. Logan Conklin was 1 of 3 and had a homerun for the team as well. Kobe VanBogart pitched just over 3 innings and Jamie Winecoff pitched 2 innings and had 2 strikeouts. Â
Carolina University will play again at home in a weekend series on February 18th and 19th against Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
