Winston-Salem, NC - Carolina University hosted Paine College on Thursday, February 9th at 7:00 pm. The Bruins were hot out of the gate and took a 9 point lead just a few minutes into the game at 16-7. Things took a turn when Paine went on a 13-4 run and took their first lead at 21-20. The Bruins continued to let things slip as the Lions gained up to a 7 point lead, but they finished the first half just down 30-31. Both teams maintained the same energy in the second half, battling back and forth for the lead. The scoreboard was tied up at 48-48 when the Bruins cut the lead. CU stretched their lead 66-56, which kept them safe as Paine hit a 8-0 run. The home crowd held their breath as the Bruins closed the game 66-64.Â
Cameron Parker led the Bruins with 16 points and had 3 rebounds. Micah Cooper had 15 points and 7 rebounds. Amarie Elijah-Kirby had 11 points and had a game-high of 15 rebounds as well as 4 assists for the Bruins. D'Shun Edwards and Cameron Buchanan both scored 9 points, and Edwards grabbed 6 rebounds.Â
