Winston-Salem, NC - Carolina University Men's Basketball hosted their second game of the weekend against Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, January 14th. The Bruins had an incredible week, winning two of their games leading up to this. The home crowd was roaring in this exciting matchup as the Bruins and Wildcats traded baskets early. With the teams tied at 34-34, the Wildcats hit a 17-5 run on the Bruins. CU worked on coming back but went to halftime down 44-53. JWU seemed to have control of the game early in the second half. The Wildcats worked up to a 12 point lead at one time, but the Bruins were fueled by their home crowd and just kept battling. CU slowly clawed back into the game and after back-to-back dunks the momentum and fully shifted their way. The Bruins closed the gap and in the last minute of the game, re-took the lead 91-89 on an Ethan Bell three-pointer. The Carolina Bruins finished the intense game with a score of 95-91.Â
Despite having two games back-to-back nights this weekend, the players continued to shine. Micah Cooper led all-scorers with 26 points and had 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Cameron Parker had another great night with 15 points and 4 rebounds. Ethan Bell scored 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 3 assists. D'Shun Edwards scored 11 points and had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Amarie Elijah-Kirby grabbed 5 rebounds for the team and scored 10 points.
Carolina University Men's Basketball is now 8-9 on the season and claimed three victories in a row. They will host Virginia University of Lynchburg for the second time this season on Tuesday, January 17th at 7:00 pm. CU won the last game against this South Region NCCAA DI opponent and looks to continue their winning streak. Come out to support the Bruins at their next game on the home court!
