WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Carolina University opened the 2022 season at home against Emory & Henry University. The Bruins are coming off of a NCCAA National Tournament appearance in 2021 and looked to get off to a strong start against the NCAA DII Wasps. Coach Golding had his squad ready and on the attack, as they scored early (14:35) to take a 1-0 lead. Veteran players Francisco Tapia and Mario Salinas connected for a goal to push the Bruins up 2-0 before halftime. There wasn't much scoring action to start the second half, but the final 10 minutes of the game ended with a flurry. The Bruins pushed the lead all the way to 4-0, and cruised to a 4-1 victory.

CU was fueled by a balanced attack in the opener. Four different Bruins scored the goals; Jake Dolden (1), Mario Salinas (1), Nathan Rue (1), and Aidan Fletcher (1). Francisco Tapia and Nathan Rue also earned assists on the night.Â

The Bruins move to 1-0 on the season and will face a very important match at the end of the week at Columbia International University. CIU is an NCCAA DI Regional opponent and ranked #17 in the NAIA pre-season poll. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 6:15pm in Columbia, SC.
