Comeback Bid Comes Up Short for WSOC

LYNCHBURG, VA -- The Carolina University Women's Soccer Team was on the road Wednesday, September 1st to play Randolph College. It was the home and season opener for the Wildcats, and the Bruins looked to spoil it. Natasha Mariam scored her first goal of the season at the 12:25 mark to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. However, the Wildcats were able to tie the game at 1-1 by halftime. Early in to the second half, Randolph College came alive and scored 3 goals (48', 58', & 68') to take the 4-1 lead. Carolina University would not quit and scored 2 goals in a 30 second span late in this game to get to a 3-4 score. Unfortunately, the Bruins would just run out of time to finish this comeback bid to fall by a final score of 3-4.

Natasha Mariam led the way for the Bruins in this one. Mariam scored 2 goals (13' & 87'). Aaliyah Rubio also scored her first goal of the season in the 86th minute of this contest. Rubio also put all 3 of her shots in this game on goal and now has an SOG% of .833. The Bruins deployed 2 goalies in this one. Zee Venura played the first half and allowed 1 goal with 7 saves. Jamison Calhoun took over in the second half and allowed 3 goals with 2 saves.

The Bruins slide to 0-3 on the season and have another tough road game at Brevard College on Saturday, September 4th. Carolina University will finally return home to face NCCAA opponent Toccoa Falls on Wednesday, September 15th.
