WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Carolina University Men's Soccer hosted Montreat College on Saturday, September 4th. The Bruins were coming off a victory at Brevard and the Cavaliers entered this match with a 1-0 record following a 6-1 victory in their first game of the season. This was set to be a highly competitive matchup and that energy was clear even in warm-ups as both teams were clearly focused. Carolina University wasted no time rewarding their home crowd as they scored just 36 seconds into the game! The Bruins didn't even let the Cavaliers catch their breath before scoring again in the 3rd minute to take a 2-0 lead. Montreat did find its footing and cut the lead to 2-1 at the half. However, the Bruins would respond in the 66th minute to go up 3-1 and provide a little more cushion. Montreat received a red card late in the game and was forced to play a man down. The Bruins defense held firm despite their attacks and secured the 3-1 victory.
Carolina University's early firepower was led by
Mario Salinas (1) who scored in the 1st minute and was assisted by
Francisco Tapia.
Luke Spillane-Davis (2) followed that with an unassisted goal in the 3rd minute and a second goal in the 66th minute that was assisted by
Mario Salinas.
Heymans Bacallao Martinez made his season debut in goal and was electric for the Bruins, deflecting many would-be goals.Â
